Here at Ron Ward Chevrolet, we're asked lots of questions about car care, and we've noticed that one aspect our Herrin, IL customers may not consider until it's too late is tire pressure. It's easy to overlook your tires when they're serving you well. However, to be sure they continue performing as expected, there are some things you should know about tire pressure.
Tires that are over-inflated can typically withstand the pressure exerted on them by too much air. They will likely suffer excessive wear to the tread, requiring replacement sooner than anticipated. Balding tires are a risk to safety.
Driving on tires that have too little air adds to that risk by negatively affecting braking capability, as well as making steering and handling less responsive in your vehicle. Heat builds up in tires with low pressure due to sidewall flexing. If the heat becomes too intense, your tire could experience a dangerous blowout.
